Episode #16 – Hugs For Heroes ft. Ayla Brown

yf0i1082-resize

Ayla Brown
Hometown: Wrentham, MA

”As long as troops are in Iraq and Afghanistan, our simple goal remains to help as many troops as possible feel appreciation from home in the form of notes and small items that can make the hardships they endure just a little easier to bear.” – from the Hugs For Heroes website.

This week we have a special episode of Community Auditions supporting Hugs For Heroes (www.hugsforheroes.com).  Founded in July of 2004 to show support to U.S. troops stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan, Hugs For Heroes has donated nearly seven tons of goods to units of all branches of the military spread throughout the Middle East.

Our favorite New England Idol, the lovely Miss Ayla Brown, performed on our show to help raise awareness for this wonderful cause. Ayla is an amazing woman and her heart is as big as the ocean that separates those soldiers from their homes back here in the States. Having worked with Hugs For Heroes before, Ayla was thrilled to work with them again, on Community Auditions, and show people all over New England how they can support their own Hometown Heroes.

Community Auditions wants to help Ayla Brown and Hugs For Heroes spread the message of love and support across the Northeast. If you have a the chance, please go to www.hugsforheroes.com and see if you can help.

Kels Ferguson
Hometown: Taunton, MA

-How long have you been performing?-
“I have been a performer since I was very, very young. My first public singing gig was in the first grade, singing for the grade school graduation.”

- How did you get interested in music in the first place?-
“My father was a lounge musician for many years. He got me started at a young age singing with his band and I’ve continued ever since, especially since he passed away. I know that to be a musician was my fathers’ dream for me.”

- What kind of music do you enjoy the most? Any favorite songs or artists?-
“I enjoy all types of music. I prefer to sing Pop music, but have sang plenty of rock with my band and certainly a lot of oldies with my father’s lounge band when I was young. I adore performers like Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, Lady Gaga and the like. They not only produce wonderful music, but are known to put on a  great live show.”

-What is the most fun thing you have ever done?-
“I think the most fun I’ve ever had was when I was at the San Diego Comic Con, Summer 2009. I got to meet a whole bunch of people who love the same thing I do.”

-What do you consider your greatest accomplishment so far?-
“Getting into Berklee College of Music as a horn player when my musical strength is my voice. That was certainly an achievement.”

- What would you like to be doing five years from now?-
“I would like to get paid for doing what I love. That does not mean that I have to be rich and famous, but if I could get a decent job in the entertainment industry that pays my bills each month, I would be happy with my life.”

Episode #15 – Kristy Dillon

Hometown: Brandford, CT

-How did you get interested in music in the first place?-
“When I was younger I had really bad anxiety, so when I talked to the doctors about it, they asked my parents what I enjoyed doing. I had always been singing so they started me in private singing lessons, and the more I performed the more my anxiety went away.”

-How long have you been performing?-
“Almost ten years.”

-Where have you performed?-
“I have performed in New York at Talent America, I have performed at numerous charity and cancer benefits, and also small local fairs.”

-What kind of msuic do you enjoy the most? Any favorite performers or songs?-
“I absolutely love country music because there’s always a song that  you are able to relate to, and every country song tells a story. My favorite song at the moment is “Change” by Carrie Underwood, who is also my favorite singer. I love this song because it talks about how there are so many opportunities to help others in need.”

-Who would you say has most inspired you?-
“Definitely Carrie Underwood vocally, but to work hard and to achieve my goals  would be the support of my family and friends.”

-What is the most fun thing you have ever done?-
“Probably not too exciting to others, but it was traveling to Ireland and seeing the different cultureal living styles.”
