Episode #13 – Scarlet Fade

Scarlet Fade
(Ali, Jordan, Jamie, and Jake Hoffman)
Hometown: Watertown, CT

-How did you get interested in music in the first place?-
“We became interested in performing music about fifteen years ago when we saw Steven Curtis Chapman on television. We began emulating what he was doing…though our guitars were nothing more than tennis rackets. As an all-sibling group, music is something that, through many difficult times, has kept us together and kept us strong. We love playing and watching the reactions of the audience. We can feel how much they are impacted by our music. That’s what we want to do more than anything. We want to make a difference with our music.”

-How long have you been performing?-
“About nine years.”

-Where have you performed?-
“We have performed all over in Texas with the band Wideawake, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York. We have played with band like Switchfoot, Lifehouse, NeedtoBreathe, and Peter Tork (of The Monkees).”

-What kind of music do you enjoy most? Any favorite artists or songs?-
“Collectively we all enjoy the band Switchfoot. They are our inspiration for everything – lyrics, music, lifestyle, message – everything. Separately though, we each have our own preferences of music that we listen to and take from in our songwrtiting process. Ali likes Paramore, Jordan likes NeedtoBreathe, Jaimme likes Coldplay, and Jake likes House of Heroes. This actually makes us more diverse in all of our songs, because all of our songs come from four different styles and preferences.”

-Who would you say has most inspired you?-
“Our inspiration is drawn from a collection of personal experiences, relationships, and most importantly our faith. We believe we’re doing this for a reason, and we can’t wait to see what’s next for us. We’re inspired by what we’ve done, and more importantly, what’s to come.”

-What do you consider your greatest accomplishment so far?-
“Our greatest accomplishment so far has been that we haven’t given up in ten years. We believe that endurance and perseverance will provide the reward. We are more than confident in our music and our message that at the right time, we will have the opportunity to launch into a broader career.”

Episode #13 – Kels Ferguson

ca_afternoon_29_of_80_4

Kels Ferguson
Hometown: Taunton, MA

- How long have you been performing?-
“I have been a performer since I was very, very young. My first public singing gig was in the first grade, singing for the grade school graduation.”

- How did you get interested in music in the first place?-
“My father was a lounge musician for many years. He got me started at a young age singing with his band and I’ve continued ever since, especially since he passed away. I know that to be a musician was my fathers’ dream for me.”

- What kind of music do you enjoy the most? Any favorite songs or artists?-
“I enjoy all types of music. I prefer to sing Pop music, but have sang plenty of rock with my band and certainly a lot of oldies with my father’s lounge band when I was young. I adore performers like Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, Lady Gaga and the like. They not only produce wonderful music, but are known to put on a  great live show.”

-What is the most fun thing you have ever done?-
“I think the most fun I’ve ever had was when I was at the San Diego Comic Con, Summer 2009. I got to meet a whole bunch of people who love the same thing I do.”

-What do you consider your greatest accomplishment so far?-
“Getting into Berklee College of Music as a horn player when my musical strength is my voice. That was certainly an achievement.”

- What would you like to be doing five years from now?-
“I would like to get paid for doing what I love. That does not mean that I have to be rich and famous, but if I could get a decent job in the entertainment industry that pays my bills each month, I would be happy with my life.”

Episode #13 – Anthony Houston

ca_afternoon_53_of_80_4

Anthony Houston
Hometown: Worcester, MA

-Where have you performed?-
“Mohegan Sun Casino, Twin Rivers Casino, all throughout the South East…New York, New England, Florida and Washinton D.C.”

-What kind of music do you enjoy most? Any favorite performers or songs?-
“I love Reggae, R&B, Gospel, and Hip Hop. Buju Banton is my favorite reggae singer, Jodeci is my favorite R&B band, and the Williams Brothers are my favorite Gospel Group. Gospel has so much spirit and Power in the message in the music, reggae as well. It makes people aware of life and issues that concern island people and people as a whole. R&B speaks mostly of love and the loss thereof…art imitating life.”

-Who would you say has most inspired you?-
“Stevie Wonder, Melvin Williams of the Willaims Brothers, Buju, and KC of Jodeci.”

-What would you like to be doing five years from now?-
“Making a living doing music, either producing or maybe singing background for a world famous act. Maybe perfoming my own music and connecting with the world through it.”

-What is the most fun thing you have ever done?-
“Sang on a Carnival Cruise Ship for a week. Opening for the O-Jays at the Half Shell in Boston., and also opening for Taylor Dane and the 5th Dimension.”

“Laid back, but intense. Passionate about things that I love.”
