My tip for the week:

PRACTICE WITH LIVE BANDS!

This is sort of a continuation from last’s weeks tip: Don’t Stop Learning.

In order to sing well and comfortably with a live band you must practice! Practice every chance you get!

There are so many variables when singing with a live band that until you get the hang of it- it can be a little intimidating!

If you don’t know any musicians go to your local jazz club and start jamming. Most open-mic nights have live in-house bands that will accompany singers. Take advantage of this- it’s free and it allows you to work on your timing, pitch and ad libbing! Trust me- once you go live you can’t go back to an audio recording! It’s kind of like coloring…it’s more fun when you get to color outside the lines!
