Guhne
(Carl DiFederico, Ryan Guhne, Alexander Peabody, Josh Sokol)
Hometown: Enfield, CT

-How did you first get interested in playing music?-
“Through listening to various CD’s and then realizing we could play that music on our own.”

-As a band, what makes you stand out?-
“We stand out because we don’t play the generic and popular style of music in our town, which is metal. We also play alternative rock and have a very flexible sound. We can get the crowd excited about what we’re doing as well.”

-How do you feel about performing on Community Auditions? How did you hear about the show?-
“We heard about it through our friend and former contestant Liv Gaines. We’re very excited.”

-What kinds of music do you enjoy the most? Any favorite songs or artists?-
“The Dave Matthews Band, Bob Marle, O.A.R, mostly alternative rock. We like them because this type of music has room for flexibility, so we’re never playing the samgeneric format over and over again. It’s popular music, without being classified as “Pop” which makes it better to play. Our music leaves room for improvisation, and chances for the crowd to get involved, which makes the performance that much better.”

-What would you like to be doing five years from now?-
“Touring and playing in a lot of packed venues.”

-What is the most fun thing you have ever done?-
“Playing our schools’ talent shows, and having the crowd start singin with us, and everytime someone wouold have a solo or be introduced, everyone goes wild. That’s the most fun we’ve ever had, because we were able to create so much energy in the crowd.”

Judges’ Corner – Ellee

Thursday, July 15th, 2010

Hi everyone!

My tip for the week:

PRACTICE WITH LIVE BANDS!

This is sort of a continuation from last’s weeks tip: Don’t Stop Learning.

In order to sing well and comfortably with a live band you must practice! Practice every chance you get!

There are so many variables when singing with a live band that until you get the hang of it- it can be a little intimidating!

If you don’t know any musicians go to your local jazz club and start jamming. Most open-mic nights have live in-house bands that will accompany singers. Take advantage of this- it’s free and it allows you to work on your timing, pitch and ad libbing! Trust me- once you go live you can’t go back to an audio recording! It’s kind of like coloring…it’s more fun when you get to color outside the lines!

Until next time,

Ellee
