NMF sounds AWE-some

So the Nantucket Music Festival is this Sunday at the Childrens Beach on Nantucket.

The lineup features headliner Ayla Brown, and our own Community Auditions Champions Liv Gaines (2009), and Danny McClain (2008). That’s a serious triple threat of sonic cool. (Yes, I really said that. -Chris)

If it were only those three it would be an amazing show, but there are many more!

The show is supporting some great local acts like the Jason Sullivan Project, Dave St. Band, and Perfect Day.

I heard through the grapevine that there will also be appearances from Community Auditions own Megan Harney, Mia Boostrom, and local hero Pat Foley.

They even brought in Candy O’Terry to host the show! How cool is that?!

This may just be the first stop on Ayla’s summer tour, but it’s going to be one fantastic show. Don’t you think you should be going now? It’s even free admission!!! What more could you want?!!

Oh, I hear this is the official website so check it out:

-How do you feel about performing on Community Auditions?-
“I’m very excited! It’s great to have the opportunity to perform at Foxwoods. I’m also looking forward to performing with the House band. They are very talented musicians.”

-How long have you been performing?-
“I was probably about eight years old at my first performance, but for the past year and a half I’ve been out performing with my band almost every weekend.”

-As a performer, what makes you stand out?-
“I know from experience that there are a lot of good singers and performers out there, but what make someone stand out is their originality. I try my best to maintain who I am as an entertainer throughout my performances. Even when I am singing a cover song I have learned to take it and make it my own.

-What kind of music do you enjoy the most? Any favorite songs or artists?-
“I really enjoy country rock music the most. My favorite performers would include Carrie Underwood, Martina McBride, and Amy Grant. I like their music styles, performance values, and vocal abilities.”

-Who would you say has most inspired you?-
“When I was younger I listened to Amy Grant all of the time. She was definitely one of my first inspirations. There are many artists, and like the other I have listed, that have also inspired me in many ways. As far as encouragement and support, my family has always provided that for me.”

-What would you like to be doing five years from now?-
“I love to bless and encourage others with my music. To be able to have a career in music that would support a family is a goal of mine. Ultimately, I would love to be a top recording artist.”

Episode #22 – Kels Ferguson

- How long have you been performing?-
“I have been a performer since I was very, very young. My first public singing gig was in the first grade, singing for the grade school graduation.”

- How did you get interested in music in the first place?-
“My father was a lounge musician for many years. He got me started at a young age singing with his band and I’ve continued ever since, especially since he passed away. I know that to be a musician was my fathers’ dream for me.”

- What kind of music do you enjoy the most? Any favorite songs or artists?-
“I enjoy all types of music. I prefer to sing Pop music, but have sang plenty of rock with my band and certainly a lot of oldies with my father’s lounge band when I was young. I adore performers like Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, Lady Gaga and the like. They not only produce wonderful music, but are known to put on a  great live show.”

-What is the most fun thing you have ever done?-
“I think the most fun I’ve ever had was when I was at the San Diego Comic Con, Summer 2009. I got to meet a whole bunch of people who love the same thing I do.”

-What do you consider your greatest accomplishment so far?-
“Getting into Berklee College of Music as a horn player when my musical strength is my voice. That was certainly an achievement.”

- What would you like to be doing five years from now?-
“I would like to get paid for doing what I love. That does not mean that I have to be rich and famous, but if I could get a decent job in the entertainment industry that pays my bills each month, I would be happy with my life.”

-How did you first get interested in music?-
“I live and breathe music. I have been singing since I was five years old.”

-Who would you say has inspired you the most?-
“Whitney Houston.”
