Episode #37 – The Siracusa Project

The Siracusa Project
Hometown: Tewksbury, MA

As a band, what makes you stand out?
“I think what makes us stand out locally with all the other talent in our town is our original song and cover song selection. Our originals have received a very positive response in the past year and a half. It helps us because most of the bands from our hometown are strictly cover bands. Not it’s a bad thing to be a cover band, but it helps us to have originals to add to our variety. The covers we do are also something that makes us stand out. You never know what you are going to hear at our shows. We have something for everyone in the room and we do it in a way where you don’t even know it’s coming.”

Where have you performed?
“We have played at numerous bars and clubs in Boston, Lowell, Tewksbury, Billerica, Haverhill, etc. We have also had some great shows in New Hampshire. We love the opportunity to play in different places – it builds support and gives you more people to share with.”

Why kind(s) of music do you enjoy best?
“We are very big fans of simply great songwriting. The cool thing about this band is that we all share the same influences and style of music. We love great songwriters such as Tom Petty, Rob Thomas, Elvis Costello, etc. We are also huge fans of 90′s pop rock and share a common interest in acoustic music.”

What is the most fun thing you have ever done?
“The most fun we’ve had as a band so far was being featured on a float in the Memorial Day parade in Tewksbury. Being asked to do that really made us feel that we were making an impact locally, and that was our plan from the start. We wanted to take the first few months and stay local and slowly ripple out as well developed a following. The parade was a great way for a lot of new faces to see us and it opened a lot of doors such as being asked to play for the town on the night of the fireworks on the 4th of July. Every show always seems to lead to a better one. It truly makes you feel as if you are doing something right.”

What do you consider your greatest accomplishment so far?
“Our biggest accomplishment so far has definitely been this opportunity to play on Community Auditions. I have been watching the show for a while and every time I watched I would always think in the back of my mind, ‘Man, we could so do this. That would be so great for us.’ This opportunity turned that thought into a reality and for that we are so grateful.”

What do you like best about your hometown?
“What we like best about Tewksbury is everything. This is where we started out a year and a half ago and the support from all the local residents has been phenomenal. The town officials and committees in Tewksbury have been amazing as well. Without them we would not have had the Memorial Day float and 4th of July concert. It’s great to see leaders in the town recognizing the interest of the residents and pushing us forward when they have so much going on. We consider ourselves to fortunate to have had that backup as we progress forward. You are only as good as where you come from.”

How are you feeling about performing on the show Community Auditions?
“I feel excited, ready, and thankful for this opportunity to perform on stage.”

How did you get interested in music in the first place?
“From the time I was two years old I couldn’t get enough of it. I would often stand with my ears pressed to my father’s high wattage Kenwood speakers listening to classic rock. I was so interested in the music itself that I wanted to know how it was made. Therefore, I picked up a guitar and just fell in love with music.”

What kinds of music do you enjoy best? Any favorite performers or favorite songs?
“The kinds of music I enjoy most are classic rock, country and pop. Personal favorites include Keith Urban, John Mayer, Michael Buble, and Colbie Caillat, all for the same reasons – they all have beautiful voices and their songs move me and reach me in ways that a lot of other singers can’t.”

Where have you performed?
“I have performed in the Berklee Battle of the Bands and various other Battle of the Bands competitions, my graduation, many local parties and events, and a few various fundraisers.”

How do you spend your free time?
“I like to spend time playing with my band, watching movies, and hanging out with my friends. My hobbies are editing and directing films, recording my music, and, of course, playing my guitar.”

What do you like best about your hometown?
“What I truly love about my hometown of Watertown is that we are a very small town where everybody knows each other and we are always the underdog in sports, which I love. Also, we have a great group of people and have a lot of fun.”
