Episode #3 – Felicia Johnson

Felicia Johnson
Hometown: Boston, MA

How did you get interested in music in the first place?
“My mother would have me and my sisters sing at home and eventually we would sing in church choirs and groups. I’ve been singing all my life.”

What kinds of music do you enjoy most? Any favorite performers?
“Wow! I’m totally eclectic and love everything. I do have a special love for gospel and jazz. Jazz tells a story of the past, present and future and the unusual tones help me go places that other genres would place limits on. Jazz is colorful. And gospel tells the same story! It liberates people, gives them hope, inspiration, and helps one to believe in something greater than themselves. My favorite singer is Kim Burrell – she sings with no limits. I love her!”

How would you describe yourself to someone who does not know you?
“Friendly, kind, a stranger to no one. Simple but fun. Helper. Adventurer.”

Who would you say has most inspired you?
“My sister LaTonya and my daughter Lucinia. Both have been the cheerleaders in my life. I’ve had some very low and challenging times, but the always believe in my even when I wasn’t so sure.”

How do you feel about being on Community Auditions?
“Wowed! When Tina called me I thought it was the wrong number, she told me to breathe and relax. When I hung up the phone I screamed and got a headache. You can tell I am super excited to a part of this show!”

What song do you plan on singing and why did you choose that song?
“‘One Moment in Time’ by Whitney Houston. I feel that all of the contestants are hoping for one moment to shine and I chose this song because it spoke directly to my inner feelings for my present desires. If I can get ‘one moment in time,’ I will make it shine!”

Episode #3 – Natalie Turgeon Band

Natalie Turgeon Band (Christopher Shrader, Natalie Turgeon, John Cunningham, Justin Need, & Daniel Latimer)
Hometown: Concord, NH

How did you get interested in music in the first place?
Answered by Natalie Turgeon:
“When I heard my older sister practicing piano, I sat down and copied what I heard. I then began 12 years of piano lessons. Singing, however, is what I love to do.”

What differentiates you from other musicians?
Answered by Christopher Shrader:
“We are all genuinely good people and good role models. We are the people you can count on and we all appreciate each other’s friendship.”

How would you describe your musical style?
Answered by Natalie Turgeon
“Our first single as a band was written for the RAM Trucks Battle of the Bands. It was about having fun and staying true to yourself. We called it ‘Country-ish,’ which pretty much describes our style.”

How do you feel about being on Community Auditions?
Answered by Christopher Shrader:
“It’s an incredible opportunity! We are very excited and can’t wait to play for these top-notch judges at this incredible venue!”

Tell us something about interesting about yourself.
Answered by Christopher Shrader:
“One of your judges, Charlie Farren, is my all-time favorite performer. I have literally seen him perform hundreds of times over the past 20+ years! I would love the opportunity to meet him and maybe get a picture with him. My passion for playing music has been driven by his bands and live shows. Thank you Charlie!”

Why do you deserve to be the next ‘Star of the Day’?
Answered by Daniel Latimer:
“Natalie works hard at her craft and pushes the band to strive for greatness, all while being humble about her talent.”

Episode #3 – Andrea Plante

Andrea Plante
Hometown: Somersworth, NH

How would you describe yourself to someone who does not know you?
“I would say that I am outgoing, friendly, competitive, intelligent, fun-loving, easy to get along with, and an all around good person. If there is something I can do to help someone in need, I will do it.”

What kinds of music do you enjoy best? Any favorite performers or favorite songs?
“I love all types of music. Currently, I would say my favorite is Sara Bareilles. She is not only a great piano playeer, but she has an amazing voice and her songs can be really challenging to sing. When you hold one of her crazy notes it just makes you feel better!”

How do you feel about being on Community Auditions?
“I am really excited and also nervous! I know how big of a deal it is to win so I have that in the back of my mind at all times. I can’t wait to get on stage to rehearse with the band for the first time and hopefully get some of my jitters out of the way.”

Why do you deserve to be the next ‘Star of the Day’?
“Music has been something I have loved since I was little. I may not have any kind of formal training and I don’t really read music, but I have a natural talent for learning music and I don’t think you will find anyone more passionate about singing than I am! I also think I could be an excellent role model for girls, women and people everywhere.”

What song do you plan on performing and why did you choose that song?
“I plan to sing ‘Chasing Pavements’ by Adele. I picked it because everyone tells me that they like how I sing it better than how she sings it.”

What would you like to be doing five years from now?
“It would be wonderful to get paid to sing! If I could make a career out of singing and inspiring people the way music has inspired me, that would be fantastic!”

Episode #2 – Megan Lally

Megan Lally
Hometown: Salem, NH

How did you get interested in music in the first place?
“Not long after I began talking, I began singing. My family knew that I had talent so they got me into singing lessons. My grandparents took me to weekly voice lessons beginning at age seven.”

What would you like to be doing five years from now?
“Five years from now, I would love to be performing, if not for my own events, for someone else’s who is well known so that I can gain experience and recognition. If I cannot make a career out of music, I will not be living my innermost dream. I would also like to own my own beauty salon.”

What kinds of music do you enjoy most? Any favorite performers?
“I enjoy a variety of music: hip hop, R&B, pop, and country. I love Rihanna – I love to sing her songs. Her style is an example of the kind of music I would like to sing and dance. It feels natural.”

Who would you say has inspired you the most?
“My father. If anyone has taught to keep going no matter what, it is him. I don’t know where I would be without him.”

How do you feel about being on Community Auditions?
“It was an awesome surprise! My aunt sent in my video without my knowledge. I am very excited about it!”

What song are you planning on performing and why did you choose that song?
“‘If I Ain’t Got You’ by Alicia Keys. I chose it because when I sing it, I feel passion and emotion from within.”
