What do you like best about your home town – the town you are representing?
Clean friendly quiet country living inside a city.

What is the most fun thing you have ever done?
Karaoke World Championships 2010 in Texas

Episode #18 – Dan Lawyer

Dan Lawyer
Wrentham, MA
Singing:  Pride & Joy – Stevie Ray Vaughn

How long have you been performing and where have you performed before?

“I started out playing in a cover band about 8 years ago.  We played in local bars.  About 31.5 years ago I started a Stevie Ray Vaughan Tribute Band, called ‘The Dan Lawyer Trio.’  I had a bass player, a drummer, and I played the guitar.  We have played at many local clubs such as The Outlaw Barbeque in Foxboro, MA and Fat Boy Blues Club in Milford, MA.”

What kind(s) of music do you enjoy best?  Any favorite performers or favorite songs?

“I like all music, but by far, I like The Blues.  It does something to me inside.  Ever since I saw my first Stevie Ray Vaughan concert in 1983, I’ve been very intrigued by his style of playing and I have studied his techniques ever since.”

What do you consider your greatest accomplishment thus far?

“My children are my greatest accomplishments.  I am so proud of the adults that they have grown into and that we have stayed so close through the good times and bad.”

How do you like to spend your free time?  What are your hobbies?

“My wife and I love to go on motorcycle trips.  We love to take off for the whole day to see how far we can get.  Guitar has been my hobby for as long as I can remember.  I am a self-taught guitarist so I have spent many hours on this hobby.”

What would you like to be doing five years from now?

“I would like to be able to be touring and opening for my favorite artists.  I would also like to have a couple of my own CD’s recorded by then.”

How would you describe yourself to someone who does not know you?

“I am a hardworking, soft spoken, and kind person.”

Episode #17 – Barbara Andrews

Barbara Andrews

Nashua, NH

Singing: Uninvited – Alanis Morissette

How long have you been performing?

“I have been performing since I was in high school – 30 years.”

Where have you performed?

“In 1980, I played a lead roll in “the Sound of Music” with my mother in Big Rapids Mi at Ferris State College.  I have performed for the Donnie and Marie Osmond show back in 2000 (not a contract, I was asked to entertain the audience before the show).  I sang at ‘The Green Room’ on Hollywood Blvd in L.A.  I am also a wedding singer and a backup singer for two well known bands in New Hampshire.”

What kind(s) of music do you enjoy best?  Any favorite performers or songs?

“I enjoy Alternative, Pop, Classic Rock, and New Age Music.  My favorite performers are Alanis Morissette, Dolores from the Cranberries, Sarah Brightman, and Madonna.  I like them because of their unique style.  Also, because of my wide range of vocals, I can sing most of their music.”

What do you consider your greatest accomplishment so far?

“Being able to work for myself as an artist, and also have so many songs written that could be hit songs. It all comes down to doing what I love in life, and that’s being the artist that I am.”

What differentiates you from other musicians?

“I have perfect pitch.  I sing and play by ear, and I can harmonize to just about anything.  My yodel can really take an effect on the audience.”

Why do you deserve to be the next Star of the Day?

“Because I have been like a shooting star for too long.  I keep missing, and I am ready to be the star now…even if it’s for a day.  New England doesn’t know what it’s missing!”
